If you’re looking to live in a quieter community within touching distance of the hustle and bustle of the metro Phoenix area, take a look at Maricopa. Just 45 minutes’ drive from downtown Phoenix, Maricopa is one of the oldest and most historic communities in Arizona.
Maricopa could be just the place for you if you want the maximum house for your dollar. Because of its location, real estate in this growing, laid-back city is affordable and provides an excellent opportunity to own the house you’ve always dreamed of…at a very good price.
Maricopa has an interesting history; the town has moved three times and had three names over the past 175 years. If you’re interested in such things, you can read all about the city’s history here. Today Maricopa is the only city in the entire nation that is bordered by two Native American communities; the community continues to honor and celebrate its cultural diversity.
When Maricopa incorporated in 2003, the 2000 census listed it with a population of 1,040. During the following two years, its population exploded to almost 16,000 earning it the title of one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Today the population sits at around 55,000 as more people have realized that they could live close to Chandler and Phoenix, enjoy more affordable homes, and still enjoy the benefits of greater open spaces and a warm, close-knit community.
Maricopa real estate prices, when compared to properties just 25 miles to the north, are amazing. Especially when you consider that you’ll be living just 30 minutes away from the city of Chandler! Chandler is Arizona’s high-tech center; home to huge employers like Intel and NXP. Chandler also offers plenty of sports and entertainment options for adults and kids alike.
Despite its affordable prices, many Maricopa properties are spacious and finished to extraordinary standards. Take a look at our Maricopa property listings below to see for yourself.
As a comparatively small community compared to its northern neighbors, it does not boast the same resources and amenities as big cities. But the city still has some wonderful parks and recreational facilities designed to enhance its residents’ quality of life, including the 28-acre Pacana Park and the Copper Sky complex.
The complex includes a 52,000 sq. ft. recreation center, as well as Copper Sky Regional Park, 98 acres of endless opportunities for fitness and leisure. The Copper Sky Aquatic Center is a fun-filled outdoor swim oasis that features several pools, a lazy river, and a splash pad for the kids.
Speaking of the kids, the Maricopa Unified School District currently operates nine schools that serve almost 8,000 students from preschool through 12th grade. Maricopa High School, home of the Rams, looks to inspire students through collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.
